12.2 METRE STEEL PONTOONS The 12.2 Metre Steel Pontoons are our standard mainline units, with a modular design which facilitates a broad range of barge configurations: Each pontoon is 12.2m long x 3.5m wide, weighs 8/9t, and has a carrying capacity of 25t. They can be used individually, or in multiple arrangements. The most typical arrangement used in construction projects is two pontoons joined side-to-side via a set of 36" wide spacing frames, producing a small barge 12.2m long x 7.9m wide with 50 tonnes carrying capacity and good stability. However, depending on the work application and especially the size of machine to be used on the barge, larger setups or 3, 4 or more units can be joined together in a variety of configurations. They are designed to be joined side-to-side, but can also be joined end-to-end.

Being road transportable ensures that the 12.2 Metre Steel Pontoons can readily be mobilised to anywhere in Australia: They are designed to travel two at a time on a standard semi-trailer, as an oversize load, but without the need for escorts. Two pontoons can be loaded one on top of the other, and it is usually possible to stow some ancillary equipment at the front of the trailer. They can be loaded with a 20t crane, but depending on the outreach required, a larger 25t to 50t crane may be necessary to get them into and out of the water.

The modular 12.2 Metre Steel Pontoons are very versatile. The water based work applications for these pontoons have been many and varied, including: Barges to accommodate cranes, excavators, piling machines, drilling rigs, and other plant operations. Floating bases to support elevated work platforms, scaffolding, and other access logistics. Barges to transport equipment and materials. Floating work platforms to provide access out from the shore for men and materials. Floating conveyor operations and load out systems. Accommodation for water based site sheds, amenities buildings, and storage areas. Platforms to receive and contain demolition rubble and contaminated materials, to prevent losing these into the water. Platforms to support diving, dredging, and other marine operations. Temporary floating marinas, exhibition areas, and entertainment stages. Barges for fireworks and the like. Support for film sets, etc.

Principal particulars for the 12.2 Metre Steel Pontoons include: Dimensions: 12.2m long x 3.35m wide x 1.32m high (A series) or 1.27m high (B series). Weight: 8 tonnes (A series) or 9 tonnes (B series). Carrying capacity: up to 25 tonnes, which utilises about half the freeboard. Draft, without load: approx 200mm. Freeboard, without load: approx 1100mm (A series) or 1000mm (B series). Freeboard, with load: decreases by 24mm per one tonne of load. Thus 25 tonnes of load evenly spread will result in a 600mm decrease in freeboard to leave the pontoon deck approx. 500mm above water, and a draft of approx. 800mm.
